River City Drill was founded by two Louisville Male High School students, Jonathan Ludwig and Isaac Mackin in January 2015. River City truly began in March with the addition of Jackson Rainwater to the team. The ideals behind the team is to educate about drill, entertain, and promote drill throughout the community.

In the beginning, River City was mostly high school freshmen and sophomores. Within a year, these young drillers produced a medal round tandem and an 8th place prelim solo finish, as well as multiple local titles in those categories. Three years later, this team became the first team in the country to place three soloists in the Top 5 in one year, and now have multiple championships and podium placements over the years.

In 2024, RCD completed the first "Solo Sweep" in Daytona, winning WDC Solo, NHSDTC Solo, and Army Nationals Solo in the same year. They also completed the WDC Sweep by winning WDC Tandem and capturing Runner-up and Third Place Solo.
