This article is written from the point of view of a MassDrill Representative telling us of their experience at RCDC held in Louisville, Kentucky.
"This was my first time going to a competition, and it was unique to say the least. I could not sleep the night prior, I rested for about an hour and I could not stomach breakfast. My stomach was filled with a hard feeling of anxiousness. Watching the routines live was entertaining. It was great to see what the time and effort these drillers put into a routine smashed out in 2-3 minutes. The support and encouragement from the fans, family and friends on the sides was an outstanding feeling. I was able to practice my routine outside before I performed to hopefully knock some nervousness out. The entire time I was watching the guy before me, thinking about how how to sound off or how I am going to nail a certain trick. As soon as I got out on that floor, all I saw was the rifle. Everything in my mind stopped and my hands stayed shaking. Exiting the pad I was welcomed by a group of fellow drillers, family, friends and even strangers all telling me that "I killed it " and nothing could top the amazing feeling that left in me. Although I was not able to partake in tandems being able to watch them was just as good. Lucky for me, the adrenaline fled my body during this time leaving the anxiousness behind finally allowing me to enjoy the rest of my competition worry free . The drill games were a great edition to RCDC. Anybody could've won. Although I knew they were not my strong suit I participated anyway because hey, why not? The strength and athletic skill displayed by some of these drillers was impeccable. The Renn brothers tied together my drill experience. Their humbleness despite being encircled a couple times showed a lot to me. The fact that World Champions were more than willing and happy to hang with average highschool drillers really meant a lot. I met a lot of great people this weekend, thank you all for the experience!" - Ryan Oschner Texas, USA MassDrill Representative. First seen on MassDrill |
